Orientation week flew past and all of a sudden Thursday September 20th came and I was waking up at 4:30 to leave for the airport to travel around Greece and Italy! Our group consisted of 17 students and 2 coordinators. After arriving in Greece, we immediately were brought to our hotel which was right in the heart of Athens! We quickly ate lunch and started a tour around the city. It was difficult at first because the metro was on strike for the day, making the city buses extremely crowded. But we made it to our first stop, the National Archeological Museum of Greece!

My favorite artifact at the museum... Violins from Ancient Greeks |
After the museum, we headed over to the Acropolis and the Parthenon. Our tour guide was amazing and so intelligent! She informed us all about the history of the Acropolis and Parthenon... so interesting! I was absolutely in awe of the Ancient Greeks and their ability to build such amazing monuments on the hill overlooking the city!

Right below the Acropolis there is Mars Hill. Mars Hill is where the Apostle Paul spread the good news of Christ to the Athenians. In the Bible you can find this in Acts 17:16-34. It was such a moving and powerful experience to be where Paul was!

Even though almost everyone was exhausted, we had one more stop to make before dinner time! All 17 of us headed over to the new Acropolis Museum. It was so cool! When they began to build it, they found ancient ruins. Instead of destroying the ruins, they built the museum over them and have glass floors so you can look while you are walking.

They had live music and all!

The following day a few of us wanted to go to the Greek Island of Aegina. The ferry took about an hour to get there. We walked around the cute harbor town and then headed to the beach! It was beautiful!

That night we went to a rooftop bar that had a beautiful view of the Acropolis!
I had a Passionfruit drink... that came with candy!

For our last day in Athens we wanted to attempt to see everything we had missed! We began at the marketplace then headed over to the Theater of Dionysus, the Temple of Zeus, the first Olympic Stadium, and the National Gardens!

For our final night we walked up Lycabettus Hill to watch the sunset over Athens! Afterwards, a traditional Greek dinner was a must.
